Funky is being produced by Naga Vamsi under the Sitara Entertainments banner and directed by KV Anudeep. Initially, Anudeep was meant to direct a film ti with Ravi Teja. However, for reasons that are unclear, and the project went to Bhogavarapu Bhanu was replaced, and Vishwak Sen was chosen as the lead, becoming Anudeep's project. Since both actors are under the same production house, it was a straightforward adjustment.
This project represents a significant challenge for both Vishwak and Anudeep, as the director is also looking to regain his footing. Anudeep's first film after the blockbuster Jathi Ratnalu, titled First Day First Show, was a major flop. He then directed Prince with Tamil actor Siva Karthikeyan, but the film failed to meet expectations. There were also rumors that he pitched a story to Chiranjeevi, but sources within the Mega camp suggest that Chiranjeevi was not satisfied with the final narration and did not proceed with the project.
Anudeep has been working hard for the past three years to find his next big hit. A successful run with Funky would generate new opportunities and pave the way for collaborations with bigger stars. To re-establish himself, he needs to deliver a comeback that showcases his directorial talent.
Vishwak Sen needs to use Funky to address the recent negativity surrounding his career. If Anudeep can effectively highlight Vishwak's comedic timing and if the overall content is strong, audiences will likely respond positively.
Reportedly, Kriti Shetty is being considered for the female lead in Funky. If she is cast, this project will present a significant challenge for her as well. While she achieved initial success with Uppena, Bangarraju, and Shyam Singha Roy, she hasn't had a hit in Tollywood since, leading her to explore opportunities in Tamil and Malayalam cinema. Last year, her film Sharva Maname didn't perform well. Her official casting is not yet confirmed. Therefore, Sitara Entertainments has the potential to provide a career boost to all three individuals involved in Funky.
