Shruti Haasan Opens Up About Struggling to Establish Her Identity Beyond 'Kamal Haasan's Daughter'
Shruti Haasan, daughter of legendary actor Kamal Haasan, has candidly shared her personal journey of seeking her own identity in the shadow of her father's immense fame.
In a conversation with YouTuber Madan Gowri, the "Salaar" actress revealed that she actively sought to distance herself from the label of "Kamal Haasan's daughter" during her early years in Chennai. She explained that being constantly referred to as such made her feel overshadowed, leading her to invent a new identity.
"I would feel like, I am Shruti, I want my own identity," she said. "If anyone asked me, I would say, ‘No, my father is Dr. Ramachandran’—it was our dentist’s name. ‘And I am Pooja Ramachandran,’ a name I made up."
While acknowledging her immense pride in her parents, Kamal Haasan and Sarika, Shruti admitted that their influence, particularly their strong personalities, shaped both her and her sister's lives. Moving to Mumbai after her parents' separation provided her with a chance to experience life outside the shadow of her father's fame.
Today, Shruti has embraced her legacy, admitting, "I don't even want to imagine Shruti without Kamal Haasan." However, her journey underscores the challenges faced by children of celebrities in establishing their own individual identities.
On the work front, Shruti is currently enjoying success in the film "Salaar Part 1 – Ceasefire," alongside Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran. She is also set to star in Lokesh Kanagaraj's "Coolie," with Rajinikanth, and will reprise her role in the "Salaar" sequel, "Salaar: Shouryaanga Parvam."
