Director Aishwarya Rajinikanth's 'Lal Salaam', which marked her comeback, is having a decent run in Tamil Nadu. The film, starring Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in lead roles, has Rajinikanth in an extended cameo. 'Lal Salaam', from Monday, February 12, saw a massive drop in numbers. Though it is expected to see a decline on weekdays, but it was a complete washout in Telugu states for its too much Tamil flavour and subpar content.
'Lal Salaam' released in theatres on February 9 amid great anticipation. The film received mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike. 'Lal Salaam' has been struggling to stay afloat at the box office despite having Rajinikanth in a pivotal role. The five-day total collection now stands at Rs 13 crore at the domestic box office.
With big names like Rajinikanth, Lyca Productions and AR Rahman, that too 'Lal Salaam' is the immediate film after Blockbuster 'Jailer', Netflix has bagged 'Lal Salaam' for a highest price. As per the initial contract, the movie will be streamed after 60 days after its theatrical release. But considering the film's poor performance at the box-office, Netflix along with makers have decided to stream it after 30 days itself. That means 'Lal Salaam' will be up for streaming from March 9th or 10th.
Rajinikanth who did the role of an extended cameo who appears for more than 30 minutes has charged a remuneration of Rs 40 crores for the film. 'Lal Salaam' marks Aishwarya Rajinikanth's comeback as a filmmaker after a hiatus of eight years. The sports drama imparts an important message about religious harmony.
Produced by Lyca Productions,'Lal Salaam' boasts an ensemble cast including Livingston, Senthil, Jeevitha, KS Ravikumar, Thambi Ramaiah and Vivek Prasanna in supporting roles. Cricket legend Kapil Dev appeared in a cameo as well. Cinematographer Vishnu Rangasamy, who co-wrote the screenplay with Aishwarya, composer AR Rahman and editor Pravin Baaskar are part of the technical crew.
