Do not glorify suicides. Those that end life in an emotionally weak moment do not become martyrs. If you glorify them, they will take pride in committing suicides, cautioned Lok Satta Party leaders to Telangana Rashtra Samiti leaders on Saturday.
The suicide of Ishan Reddy is painful. In the name of self-sacrifice for a local deity, one lost a precious life causing immense bereavement to the poor parents who are farmers, LS leaders Katari Srinivasa Rao and V. Laxman Balaji said.
It is superstition, not a heroic act which has finished a young life, they regretted.Selfish politicians not only announce martyrdom to weak persons, but also instigate others to emulate them. This is a pitiable thing, they added.
The Lok Satta leaders cautioned students and youth to be aware of forces, which have been glorifying suicides as cases of martyrdom and urged them not to take such extreme steps.
The Lok Satta suggested that counselling centres should be opened in colleges and universities to prevent suicides.
Meanwhile, Telugu Desam Party chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the death of Ishaan Reddy and asked the students not to take such hasty steps.
