Governor asks VCs to be tough with ragging

Punishment of suspension and fines meted out by the Universities  should be stiff  and act as deterrents to those who might nurse ideas of ragging entrants.

The vice-chancellors will be held  responsible if  any ragging  incidents take place in any  college, be it in the university or any professional college, said Governor E S L Narasimhan.

In his capacity  as Chancellor of the universities  in  the State, he urged the VCs  to  deal sternly with the ragging  issue.

Addressing the  VCs of various universities in the state, Narasimhan  emphasised the fact that this year it should be zero ragging year.  I don’t  wish to see any cases  being  registered against  ragging  in  the  State this academic year, the  Governor made his  intentions clear with  the vCs.

Strict  punishments should be meted out to those who are  indulged in ragging  such that they  will not  recuur again.  You  can even  go  to the  extent  of  placing  the culprits  behind  the bars if they do not take seriously  about the ragging.  The parents should be  educated about the ills  of  ragging. One should  feel the  mental tension the ragging   causes on the students who join the  course  afresh.

The universities and other educational institutes have been asked to launch an awareness drive in which senior students should be informed about the evils of ragging and teachers, parents and students should equally participate in the drive.
