Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in his opening remarks at the meeting of the National Development Council (NDC), on Saturday said the Government is optimistic about a good monsoon this year that will dip inflation to six per cent by December.
On the pace of economic growth, he said the country's gross domestic product is expected to expand by 8.1 per cent during the 11th Five Year Plan (2007-12) against the targeted nine per cent growth.
The NDC was attended by several Central Ministers and many of the Chief Ministers.Chief Minister K Rosaiah speaking at the NDC meet said ``Andhra Pradesh has set an example to other states in curbing the Maoists.’’
Despite the Global economic crisis, the state has recorded a growth rate of 6.8 per cent during the period 2004-08, the Chief Minister observed.
Due to the Global economic crisis, the state has suffered investments to the tune of Rs 20,000 crore, he added.
Rosaiah appealed to the Prime Minister to grant National status to Polavaram and the Pranahita Chevella project. He urged the PM to speed up the inauguration of Mannavaram project for the benefit of the people of Andhra Pradesh.
The NDC, the country's highest policy making body, was called to review the progress of the 11th Plan and set right anomalies, if any.
