Saina Nehwal, the ace shuttler from Hyderabad is inching closer to the World No. 1 spot among the leading women in the world.
According to a ranking list released by the World Badminton authorities Saina secured 64791.2637 points, second only to Yihan Wang of China. The city girl who won the Indonesian open recently jumped from No 3 to the second position by displacing Zin Wang, also of China.
Chances of Saina making it to the top are bright provided she sustains the same form and makes headway without sustaining injuries. She will feature in the World Badminton Championship in Paris in August, followed by the Commonwealth Games, and then the Asian Games.
If Saina triumphs in all the tournaments, then the country achieves its dream of seeing an Indian at the pinnacle of world sport.
