Assembly Speaker Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday suspended 55 Telugu Desam MLAs and one BJP member (Kishan Reddy) when they stalled the proceedings demanding the resignation of Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao over the police firing on villagers of Sompeta.
When the House met for the day on Thursday, the incidents of police firing on the protestors at a proposed thermal power plant site in Barua-Sompeta (Srikakulam dist) rocked the Assembly for the second consecutive day.
When the appeals did not yield the result, the Speaker announced the suspension of the legislators from the House for the day after Endowments Minister Gade Venkat Reddy moved a resolution in this regard. The House was adjourned immediately after.
As the suspended MLAs refused to leave the House, the Speaker called in marshals to physically lift them out. However, the MLAs resisted the marshals. The MLAs uprooted the mikes before being carried out by the marshals.
