A delegation of Telugu Desam leaders met Governor ESL Narasimhan on Friday to highlight the plight of weavers in the State.
The TDP leaders demanded Rs 1 lakh as compensation to the families of those who committed suicide. The TDP leaders told the weavers that they were ready to take the issue to the notice of Union Government .
“Problems cannot be solved if you do not fight against them. Keep fighting against your problems and we will be with you,'' they said adding that the weavers needed better technology, marketing facilities and better education facilities for their children.
The TDP leaders expressed surprise as to why the State government had been failing to get funds to address the problems of weavers when other State governments are able to do that.
They appealed to the Governor to continue the rebate on APCO Fabrics. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Governor asking him to look into the plight of weavers.
The Governor after giving a patient hearing, said he will consult the Central and state governments on this issue and would look into the matter.
