Visakhapatnam district is under the spell of swine flu. The daughter of a doctor couple residing in Daspalla Colony was infected with swine flu. Her samples were tested swine- flu positive. She is now being treated at home.
So far, five swine-flu cases have been registered of which two patients died of swine flu. The state recorded the first swine-flu death this year when a businessman from Vizag fell prey to the deadly H1N1 virus here on June 19.
Thirty-year-old Appanna from Dondaparthy near Railway New Colony died around 5 p.m in a private hospital where he underwent treatment since June 14.
Five persons, including a woman, had died of swine flu out of 29 positive cases in the district last year. It may be recalled 54 people had died of swine flu in the state last year.
Meanwhile, the district medical authorities said intensive awareness campaigns would be taken up against swine flu.
