Ban on RTC strikes for 6 months

The state government on Monday imposed a ban on strikes by Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) unions or employees for six months under the Essential Services Maintenance Act.

The government will issue a notification in this regard on July 7. The statement said, the government took this step in order not to cause inconvenience to the commuters.

According to sources, the APSRTC management is not ready to accept the demands of workers as the loss suffered by it has reached Rs 1,100 crore due to various factors, including increase in diesel prices.

The RTC also suffered a loss of Rs 200 crore on account of the bandhs and agitations recently. The wage revision has imposed an additional burden of over Rs 400 crore on the management, the sources said.
