Welfare schemes given go-by: Naidu

Reiterating that Telugu Desam would continue its fight against people’s problems in the state, party supremo N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday came down heavily on the state government for neglecting the welfare schemes meant for the poor and the middle classes.

Naidu, who came here to launch a crusade against people’s problems, told reporters the government was mobilizing resources by auctioning liquor shops at the cost of public health.

In the name of liquor auctions, the government has mobilized funds to the tune of Rs 7,000 crore. However, the government has failed to allot adequate funds in the budget for health-care, he said.

The Government has no political will to provide minimum support price for farmers by consulting with Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

Naidu felt the Government clearly acted against farmers' interests as it did nothing to provide quality seeds and fertilizers in adequate quantities to the farm sector for the khariff season.

Squarely blaming the government policies for the rise in prices of essential commodities, Naidu demanded that the government take steps to containg the rising prices.

He said the government has violated rights of girijans by leasing out bauxite mines in the agency. The TDP would intensify its fight against anti-people and anti-farmer policies of the government.
