Director General of Police R R Girish Kumar on Monday said the state government has sought 80 companies of paramilitary forces from Centre for conducting byelections to 12 Assembly segments peacefully in the Telangana region.
Talking to reporters after inaurating a police training centre here, the DGP said the state needs additional forces for free and fair conduct of polls.
He sought the cooperation of all parties for conducting elections in a fair manner without creating any law and order problem in the region. He also warned of stern action against those, who take law into their hands and create trouble in the elections.
The DGP statement assumes significance as warning the threats issued by Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) and other pro-Telangana groups to stop both the ruling Congress and Telugu Desam from contesting the by-elections.
As per the reports, JAC is mounting pressure on the Congress and TDP not to field candidates to allow unanimous election of those who resigned in February to demand bifurcation of state.
Ten Telangana Rashtra Samiti MLAs and one each from TDP and BJP had quit demanding separate Telangana state.
According to sources the Election Commission will issue a byelection notification to 12 assembly segments this week.
