Income Tax sleuths raided Telugu Desam leader Peram Haribabu’s house on Thursday. The raids started at 9 a.m and are still in progress when reports last came in.
The IT sleuths swung into action following reports that vehicles belonging to Peram Haribabu were seized in Kadiri in Anantapuram district by the police. The vehicles were transporting Rs 7 crore from Hospet in Karnataka. The huge amount was discovered by the police when the vehicles were intercepted by the police at a dhaba in Kadiri.
The police grew suspicious about this amount as the vehicles had several number plates which could be easily replaced according to convenience to mislead the police. The occupants of the vehicles were carrying walkie-talkies with them paving the way for the police to be more suspicious.
According to sources, Peram Haribabu was the chief financier for the TDP during the recent Mahanadu and was also a staunch supporter of the party who raised substantial amount of fund for the TDP.
Meanwhile, the TDP has released a press statement indicating that it has nothing to do with the amount which was seized by the police at Kadiri on Wednesday night.
