IIT-JEE topper from AP

Andhra Pradesh students captured top ranks in the Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination for 2010 which were declared on Wednesday morning.

As per initial information and the claims through various media channels, Corporate college group Narayana student Jitender Reddy scored the first rank in IIT entrance test open category.

Besides the first ranker, Uday K Shah (2nd ranker), Madhu Kiran (4th) and the Sabaresh Nikhil (8th)are students from the Narayana Group of colleges.

The Sri Chaitanya group of colleges claimed the all-India seventh rank. A product of IIT Ramaiah Institute, Satwik, bagged the sixth rank in the open category.

Nearly 4.72 lakh students, including the 80,000 from Andhra Pradesh appeared for the examination.The results will help aspirants get admission into the top 15 IITs in the country.

According to sources, online counselling was introduced for the convenience of the candidates who qualify in the joint entrance test. The counselling portal will start on May 27.

“Candidates can provide online options to claim seats in the IITs from May 27. Reserved category students have to go to the IITs for document verification, but they can fill on their choices online,” said T S Natarajan, the organising chairman, IIT-JEE, IIT, Madras.

This year’s results, however, are mired in controversy as the Delhi High Court has asked the IITs for an explanation concerning several errors in the question papers.
