Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday urged the state government to announce a special package for distressed power loom weavers in Dubbaka in Medak district on the lines of Sirisilla.
Talking to reporters at NTR Trust Bhavan during an Ishtagoshti programme with weavers of Dubbaka, Lachapeta, Ramakkapeta, Hubsipur, Chittapur and Dharmagipeta, he said nearly 125 weavers have committed suicide in district due to wrong policies adopted by the state government.
Stating the weavers in dire straits, he urged the government to form long and short term plans for their upliftment. He also appealed to the government to waive loans on power loom weavers.
Demanding the government to release Rs 10 crore for the welfare of power loom weavers, he said the government should extend Pavala Vaddi scheme to weavers.
On the occasion, TDP weavers’ wing chief secretary Rapolu Sudhakar invited Chandrababu Naidu to Maha dharna to be launched on May 22 at Dubbaka.
