Aid farmers hit by rains, Naidu tells CM

Telugu Desam supremo N Chandrababu Naidu wrote to Chief Minster Dr K Rosaiah on Thursday demanding compensation to the farmers affected by the Wednesday’s unseasonal rains in Guntur and Krishna among 10 districts.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, Naidu said the havoc created by the unseasonal rain and gales in the 11 districts of the state caused widespread damage to crops on a large scale and death of eight persons at different places.

The loss is estimated to be in crores of rupees to the farmers across the state, Naidu said.

’’The situation is distressing as the produce was left in the open yards and fields. Hence the damage is enormous,’’ he stated and urged the Chief Minister to conduct a survey on the losses incurred by the farmers in the rains.

Naidu suggested that the state government come to the rescue of the affected farmers by extending compensation and financial aid to them. He also demand an ex gratia compensation of Rs 3 lakh each to the families of the deceased persons.
