Voicing his concern over the present crisis of drought and the pandemic swine flu, Loksatta leader Jaiprakash Narayan said that the government should take this as a challenge and come up with drastic measures to tide over the crises.
Speaking in the assembly on Monday over the government’s failure to tackle drought-hit areas in the state, the Loksatta leader said that the government should ensure proper utilization of funds meant for farmers.
Emphasizing the need to act promptly, collectively and effectively, he asked the government to keep a close watch on availability of food grains and prices of essential commodities.
He warned the government that the reduced production of Kharif crop in the current year may have an inflationary impact on prices of food items in the coming months.
He criticised the government for conducting yagas to appease rains gods instead of taking scientific measures to tackle the drought-like situation in the state.
The drought problem should not have arisen, if the government utilized 900 mm rainfall properly in the Telangana region, he added.
