Shoaib quizzed, his passport seized

After a marathon questioning that lasted two hours on Monday, the Hyderbad police seized the passport and mobile phone of Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik.

The police, according to sources, are likely to go into the phone logs of the mobile. The Pakistani cricketer has reportedly told the police that the purported signature on the 'nikahnama' is not his and has been forged.

Sania  Mirza’s residence in Hyderbad was crowded with police and media personnel. Assistant Comissioner of Police Ravikanth Reddy reached Mirza's residence in the morning amidst media glare to interrogate Shoaib. However, it was not clear whether Sania too is being quizzed.

Meanwhile, the police also arrived at Ayesha's residence in the city to record her statement as well as that of her family members'. The police may take the evidence from Ayesha. Sources said the police may also go through Ayesha's phone logs.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner AK Khan told newsmen the charges against Shoaib include dowry harassment against Ayesha, cheating and criminal intimidation such as threats to her family.

The Banjara Hills police said a case under Section 420 (cheating), 498-A (dowry harassment) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC has been registered against Shoaib and they will take up the investigation after verifying the facts specified in the complaint.

Shoaib admitted to his 'nikah' with Ayesha but claimed the marriage was invalid. He accused Ayesha of cheating him as he believed the girl he was marrying was the one in the photographs sent to him by her.

Immigration authorities have been informed about the case filed against Malik and his passport seizure," Additional Commissioner of Police (Coordination) Dwarka Tirumala Rao said.
