The Chief Minister, Dr Y S Rajasekahara Reddy, will inaugurate the five-day Nursery Mela at People’s Plaza, Necklace Road, in the city on August 15. Talking to TNN here on Friday, Horticulture Director G Jaya Lakshmi said that the mela would have different plant varieties such as ornaments, orchids, decorative plants, climbers and indoor plants on display. The special attraction in this year’s show is orchids and anthuriums from West Bengal, she said.
She said that 49 nurseries, manufacturers of seeds, gardening tools, tissue culture plants, bio-fertilizers, drip and sprinkler irrigation systems, government and semi-government organisations and publishers would set up their stalls in the mela. More than 3,000 farmers are expected to participate in the event and 100 stalls were booked so far, she informed.
The exhibition will be kept open from 10 am to 10 pm, except on the inaugural day, and entry is free of cost.
Cultural programmes, competitions for schoolchildren, live demonstrations of farm equipments would be conducted during the mela, she said.
