Slamming the state government's inaction in containing the violence that erupted in the old city on Saturday night, which claimed two lives and injured more than 80 persons in arson and rioting, Telugu Desam leader N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday stressed the need for stringent action against those responsible for the violence.
Talking to reporters at the party office, the Opposition leader said the police action was responsible for spreading violence to new areas. He alleged that large-scale arson and attacks on houses and religious places occurred due to police failure. The government has failed to check violence and restoring peace in trouble-torn areas, he stated. "Had the police acted swiftly to nab the perpetrators of violence, things would not have reached this far," he pointed out.
Naidu said his party would support the efforts of the State Government to restore normalcy in the Old City.
He urged the government to act firmly with the rioters and anti-social elements behind the clashes.
