Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) on Thursday insisted in the Assembly that Speaker Kiran Kumar Reddy allow a discussion on reservation for Muslims in jobs and educational institutions.
MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi argued with the Speaker to permit a debate in the light of the State High Court striking down a law providing four per cent reservation to Muslims in educational institutions and jobs.
Expressing concern over the issue, he said he raised the issue on Tuesday, but the Deputy Speaker did not permit the discussion and adjourned the House abruptly. He urged the Government to ensure that the law providing reservation to Muslims in jobs stays.
It was the responsibility of the government to ensure that the quota is retained for the community, he added. The Speaker assured the MIM leader that he would take up the issue after the question hour. Then the House resumed its business.
