The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution requesting the Centre to amend the Constitution in order to protect the interests of Telangana region by deleting para 14F in the Presidential order treating Hyderabad as a ‘free zone’ in the recruitment of police.
The resolution was necessitated when the Supreme Court dismissed a plea by the AP government against its ruling that made Hyderabad a "free zone" for recruitment in government jobs.
Leaders from all political parties in Telangana contend that local youth would be at a disadvantageous position if Hyderabad is declared as a free zone for the recruitment purpose.
When Chief Minister K Rosaiah introduced the resolution in the Assembly, all party legislators, cutting across party lines, voted in favour of it. Later, Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar announced in the House that the resolution was accepted with majority.
Later, he adjourned the House for Friday.
