Chief Minister K Rosaiah announced in the State Assembly on Thursday that Mandal Food Advisory Committee will be constituted soon . The panel will review the process of weeding out duplicate 'white ration cards'.
The constitution of the Panel comes in the wake of allegations made by the opposition against the Congress in the Assembly. The Opposition alleged that the ruling Congress indulged in indiscriminate distribution of ration cards on self-declaration basis before the elections to woo the voters. The opposition further pointed out that the Government was depriving ration cards to the genuine poor after storming back to power.
On Thursday, Telugu Desam Party president and Leader of the Opposition N Chandrababu Naidu charged the Congress during the Question Hour that the government was delaying action on the issue of bogus ration cards.
Mr Rosaiah rebutted the TDP chief’s charge by saying ''There are checks and balances. I am not saying the system is fool-proof. Some officials may have acted in a high-handed manner. The Government's intention is to ensure that no eligible person is denied the card and no ineligible person gets the card.'
He announced that the ''Government is ready to constitute the Mandal Food Advisory Committee headed by MLAs concerned for scrutiny of the process in the removal of bogus ration cards.''
