The Opposition parties on Monday stalled the proceedings in the House demanding cancellation of bauxite mining lease permits to contractors.
When the House met for the day, the Opposition parties demanded scrapping of all mining permits and review of agreements signed with Jindal South West Aluminium Limited and Anrak Aluminium Limited in areas bordering Visakhapatnam-East Godavari districts.
The Opposition parties, TDP, BJP, PRP and left demanded that the State Government to review its agreements, invite fresh bids through open bidding and grant leases to tribal cooperatives in deference to the Supreme Court’s landmark judgment in the Samata versus Birla Periclase case.
“The mining mafia wants to plunder our resources,” the Opposition alleged.Replying to the Opposition charge, Minister for Mines Balineni Srinivasa Reddy said there were no irregularities reported in the lease of bauxite mines.
However, not satisfied with Minister’s reply, BJP, CPI and CPM staged a walkout from the House. The TDP and PRP members expressed their displeasure by staging a protest in the House.
