Thanks to the call given by the Telangana Joint Action Committee, the rural areas of Telangana districts did not celebrate Holi, the festival of colours, as per expectations.
However, Holi was celebrated in Warangal city on Sunday and Monday. People sprinkled colours on friends, greeting each other. Telangana sentiment also ran high on the occasion as people went on raising Jai Telangana slogans.
The children and youth came on to the roads with several colours smeared on them. The women, particularly from Marwadi and Vaishya communities, came out in groups and celebrated the festival dancing to the tunes of popular film songs. Swadeshi Jagaran Manch activists also celebrated the festival in traditional fervour.
Officials of the district celebrated the festival by greeting each other. All public representatives did not turn up for the festivities as the JAC called upon people to stage protest rallies against them in their constituencies.
