HC seeks report on safety of films

Hyderabad, Jan 12: Film producers who appealed to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti activists not to disrupt screening of films, moved the High Court on Tuesday seeking a direction on hassle-free screening of their movies in Telangana districts.Responding to the appeal, the High Court sought a report from the DGP on the security support to films being screened in Telangana regions. Additional reinforcements were being provided at the theatres on the new releases of Andhra film makers in Telangana region, the DGP replied.

The High Court, after hearing the report closed the proceedings.Earlier, the TRS activists threatened to boycott and disrupt Jr NTR's film Adurs which is scheduled for release on Jan 13, the Film Producers Council has urged the Telangana leaders not to link films with Telangana state agitation.Following a call given by Telangana Jagruthi Samithi president K Kavitha, the TRS activists boycotted the films produced by film producers from Andhra, who are pitching for integrated Andhra Pradesh.The TRS activists also warned the exhibitors and theatre owners of dire consequences if they screen ‘Adurs’ film.

As the TRS leaders stoutly opposing the release of film, the Producers Council on Tuesday filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking directions to Telangana leaders for hassle-free release of film.The petition made Telangana Jagruthi Samiti leader K Kavitha, Joint Action Committee of Osmania University and Joint Action Committee of political parties convenor Prof Kodandaram.
