Eamcet-2 cancelled, KCR orders re-exam

Expressing deep regrets over the leakage of question paper, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday announced the cancellation of Eamcet-2. 

The Chief Minister said that the State Government has no option but to conduct re-exam. He appealed to the parents and student to understand the situation and cooperate with the government. He directed the Telangana State Council for Higher Education, Health University and JNTU authorities to announce the schedule for Eamcet-3 by today evening. 

The decision was taken during the review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister at his camp office on Tuesday morning. Deputy CM Kadiyam Srihari, Health Minister Dr. Lakshma Reddy, Principal Secretary (Health) Rajeshwar Tiwari, JNTU VC Venugopal Reddy, Kaloji Health University VC Karunakar Reddy, TSCHE Chairman Papi Reddy, Intelligence IG Shivadhar Reddy, CID IG G. Sowmya Mishra and other officials attended the meeting.

Briefing the Chief Minister about paper leakage case, the officials said that the racket was operated from Delhi by Mukul Jain, Manik Sharma, Sunil Singh, Iqbal and other accused. So far, 34 brokers have been identified who distributed the leaked question paper to different places in the country. So far, six arrests have been made while efforts are on to nab other accused persons. The officials suspected that at least 200 candidates and their parents have contacted the brokers. 

During the meeting, the Chief Minister discussed alternate for re-exams. However, officials told KCR that in almost 70 cases of paper leakage reported across the country, the authorities went to re-exam. They also referred the judgments of various High Courts and Supreme Court in cases of question paper leakage. 

The Chief Minister directed the officials that no fresh applications or fee should be collected from the candidates and hall tickets for Eamcet-3 should be issued based on their old hall tickets. Free transportation should be arranged for candidates for re-exam. He said Study Material and Question Banks should be provided on JNTU's website for the benefit of students. 

KCR also directed that re-exam should be conducted under the supervision of a new team including Convener and Co-Convener.
