Nalgonda, Jan 5: Many students were canecharged on Tuesday after they staged a dharna in front of the police station here demanding the release of Osmania University Joint Action Committee leader Srihari, who was arrested by Kodada police in the wee hours of Tuesday.Angered over the arrest of their leader, the students stoned a police jeep and picked heated arguments with the police.
As the situation went out of control, the police lathicharged students to maintain law and order in the town.Earlier, the students took out a rally, raising slogans against the police, and demanded release of their leader and condemned the highhandedness of the police officials.The police said they arrested Srihari as a precautionary measure.
