KCR asks officials to speed up works on 2BHK houses

Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has directed the officials to speed up the works on weaker section housing programme to provide 2BHK houses (with two bathrooms) to the deserving poor.

The Chief Minister held a review meeting with District Collectors, Joint Collectors and Superintendants of Police and other senior officials at MCR HRD Institute here on Tuesday. Addressing the meeting, he asked officials to ensure that the housing scheme is implemented without any irregularities. Stating that the housing scheme would benefit at least two generations, he said that the State Government would not tolerate any corruption in the implementation of the scheme.

KCR said unlike previous regimes which used to provide two 'box-type' rooms to the poor outside the city, the State Government would provide 2BHK houses with two bathrooms within 5-KM radius of towns. On pilot basis, 400 houses would be constructed in each Assembly constituencies. While the local MLA could recommend 50% beneficiaries, the remaining 50% would be selected by the District-incharge minister. He said that the State Government proposes to construct 60,000 houses during current financial year. They include 36,000 houses in rural and 24,000 in urban areas. While Rs. 5.04 lakh would be spent on each house in rural areas, the cost will be Rs. 5.30 lakh in urban areas.

The Chief Minister directed the District Collectors to identify suitable land for the housing schemes. He said transportation of sand and other material for the weaker section housing would be given relaxations. Stating that housing became synonym of corruption during previous regime, he alleged that a scam of Rs. 5,000 crore took place in just one year. He said nearly 300 officials were suspended for the same and many were also sent to jail.

KCR said that the District Collector would be responsible for the execution of the scheme and all selected beneficiaries would have to get certificate from Tehsildar.

Deputy Chief Minister (Revenue) Mohammed Mahmood Ali delivered the inaugural address while several senior officials attended the meeting.
