TRS MLC Karne Prabhakar on Monday claimed that the the TRS Government was taking serious measures to develop irrigation in the Telangana State.
Addressing a press conference here, Karne said while the previous regimes started irrigation projects to help the contractors, the TRS Government started irrigation projects only to help the farmers. He said that the government was trying to tap about 1280 TMC of water from Godavari and Krishna Rivers to irrigate about one crore acres of land.
Karne said that the Pranahita Chevella project design was faulty and the same was pointed by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao even before elections. He said the project's design was being changed to irrigate more land and avoid inter-State disputes. Since Mahabubnagar and Ranga Reddy districts could not be irrigated through Pranahita-Chevella, the Chief Minister launched Palamuru Lift Irrigation Project to cover both the districts. He advised the opposition parties to play a constructive role than resorting to mere criticism.
