Congress senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao on Saturday asked Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to clarify his stand on preservation of Hyderabad's heritage.
Speaking to media persons here, VHR pointed out that Deputy CM Mahmood Ali has advocated demolition of Charminar. He asked KCR to explain whether he was planning to demolish all the heritage buildings in the city to erase memories of erstwhile Hyderabad State and Nizam. Charminar, Osmania General Hospital and Osmania University are the identities of Hyderabad across the world. These structures need to be preserved for future generation. But, one after the other, the Chief Minister is targeting all of them, he alleged.
VHR pointed out that several heritage sites across the country like Qutub Minar are being preserved by spending thousands of crores. If one goes by KCR's ideology, then all those structures should be demolished and replaced with new ones. He warned the TRS Government of mass agitation if it tries to damage any heritage building in the city, including the present building of OGH. By proposing to demolish the heritage buildings, KCR is trying to reduce their historical importance, he alleged.
Meanwhile, VHR asked the State Government to take steps to prevent adulteration of toddy which is affecting the health of poor people. He said the government's move to plant 5 crore toddy trees would benefit the contractors and politicians than the common people.
