Visakhapatnam,Dec 19: The decision of Centre on the statehood of Telangana is not unilateral, said Union Minister of State for Human Resources Ms Purandhareswari here on Saturday. She was in the city to visit the supporters of United Andhra who are on hunger strike in the fasting camps here.Speaking to the media here on Saturday, she expressed her support for the united Andhra demand and said, the Centre after hearing the views of all the political parties, in particular Telugu Desam Party, announced its decision on Telangana.Without the resolution being passed by the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, no decision on Telangana will be implemented, she added.Backing the statement made by Union Home Minister Chidambaram on Dec 9 over the statehood of Telangana, she said the statement was made to contain the law and order situation in the Telangana region and save the life of Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K Chandrasekhar Rao.
By releasing a statement of that sort, the Centre wanted to sense the pulse of the people in Andhra Pradesh.`` I did not resign from the Union Cabinet because there will be no one left to fight the case of united Andhra at the Centre if I also tender my resignation,’’ she explained. The Centre is keenly observing the latest developments in the state, she said. If at all Telangana is granted statehood, then the bone of contention will be Hyderabad and I am sure, the Centre will come out with an amicable solution which is acceptable to both the people in Andhra and Telangana, she observed.
