The Telangana Congress leaders have claimed that AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi's padayatra was aimed at giving an assurance to farmers of Telangana that they were not alone in their time of distress.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, TPCC President N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Leaders of Opposition K Jana Reddy Reddy (Assembly) and Mohammed Ali Shabbir (Council), Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and others, said that Rahul Gandhi padayatra would instill confidence among farmers of Telangana and it would prevent them from resorting to extreme steps like suicide. Jana Reddy alleged that the State Government has completely neglected the welfare of farmers and was not even paying mandatory compensation to the families of farmers who committed suicide.
Uttam Kumar Reddy informed that Rahul Gandhi's stay in a tribal tanda in Adilabad was yet to be finalised. However, he confirmed that Rahul Gandhi would lead a padayatra in Nirmal of Adilabad district during his two-day tour from May 11.
