Finance Minister Etala Rajender on Thursday told the Telangana Legislative Assembly that the State Government have no plans to enhance the retirement age of government employees.
Replying to a question raised by MLAs A Gandhi and T Prakash Goud during Question Hour, the minister informed that there were 523,677 government jobs in the State. Of them, 415,931 employees including Work Charged, Contingent, Grant-in-Aid, Contract and Honorarium employees are working in government. Presently, there are 107,744 vacancies in the government. He said that the bifurcation of Central Government employees is going on. After the completion of this process, the State Government would take measures to fill the vacancies.
The minister said that about 8,000 to 10,000 employees are likely to retire this year. He said that several educated unemployed youth are waiting to join the government services and therefore, the retirement age of existing employees could not be increased.
