Hyderabad will be turned a people-friendly city: KTR

Information Technology Minister K Tarakarama Rao on Thursday announced that measures would be taken to transform Hyderabad into a people-friendly city.

Speaking to media persons on the launch of Raahagiri project at Haritha Plaza here, KTR said that tenders would be called shortly for the construction of 100 Foot-over-Bridges and 166 Road-over-Bridges. He asked the officials to remove encroachments from footpaths and ensure separate tracks for pedestrians and cycle-riders. Information that the Cyberabad Police was establishing two cycle stations, he also asked the Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd to promote usage of cycles. He said there were five to six world class heritage buildings that needs to be preserved and protected from vehicular pollution.

GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar assured that the world heritage buildings in the city would be made traffic free and zero pollution zones. He admitted that the pedestrians were facing problems on city roads due to lack of footpaths and encroachments. He said nearly 125 KM stretch of road was being cleared from encroachments in view of Metropolis Congress.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy informed that the city traffic police wing was adopting new technologies to make the city roads safer. He stressed on the need for creating awareness among people about the traffic sense.
