The onus of building a safer world rests with journalists

Hyderabad ,Dec  1 (INN): The journalists  have a role to play in  the shaping up of a better world in the wake of escalating global terror,’’said President  Pratibha Patil while inaugurating the  three-day conference of the World Newspaper Congress and the World Editors Forum to discuss both the editorial and business challenges of the print media here on Tuesday.Terrorism is posing a great threat to the peaceful living citizens of the world and destabilizing the well knit communities,said Prathibha.Addressing the  media persons who came from various parts of the world she said in view of  the concepts of clobal village and globa climate change,the journalists have specific roe to play in building for a better world.The president asked the printing industries to take to eco-friendly and energy efficient technologies so as to reduce its carbon footprint which can pave the way for a sustainable future.

Golden Pen of Freedom award  to  Najam Sethi

The World Editors’ Forum (WEF) presented  “Golden Pen of Freedom” award to  well known Pakistani journalist Najam Sethi,until recently Editor-in-Chief of Friday Times and Daily Times,for his expository writing against extremist forces and the government.The conference  will have various  sessions to discuss issues like  World Trends in the Newspaper Industry: An update of Print and Digital Developments” and “Future of Journalism Vs Future of the Newspaper,free press and shaping the future of the newspaper.About 900 participants from 87 countries are taking part in the three-day conference being held at the  Hyderabad  International Convention Centre.
