Saving grace for PRP

Hyderabad,Nov 26:After their fall out with the Congress in contesting the civic polls jointly in Hyderabad, the Praja Rajyam Party just secured a lone seat to make its presence felt in the Corporate council of Greater  Hyderabad.Making an effort to maintain their status as a recognized political party in the state, the PRP fared a shade better than Lok Satta which fielded 126 candidates without even winning a single seat.On the other hand PRP fielded 64 candidates in the bargain winning only one seat. The PRP candidate from Old Boinpalli,Narasimha Yadav, who won the election was a saving grace for the PRP.The PRP which was fighting for its symbol right from its inception at last secured the symbol of rising sun.

Now it seems that sun’s rays have not penetrated into  the people ‘s hearts to make any impact. The PRP leader Chiranjeevi’s statement that the party contested in the election to improve its vote bank holds no good for it is a clear indication that the party is not a force  to reckon with either in the state or in the city. With this dismal show in the civic polls the party’s future is at crossroads.Either it will have to build up its base in the rural areas and make their presence felt or it will have to merge with some other political party.
