CM denies discriminating against Telangana

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday denied allegations that he discriminated against the Telangana region.

Intervening during the debate on Telangana Bill, the Chief Minister defended his decision of sanctioning drinking water project to his native district Chittoor. Reacting to allegations leveled by Telangana Rashtra Samithi Deputy Floor leader T Harish Rao that he was discriminating against Telangana region, Kiran Kumar Reddy said that his decision was purely aimed at solving the drinking water problem in the district.

The Chief Minister claimed that nearly 250 to 300 bore wells go dry in Chittoor district every day during the summer. Therefore, the State Government has sanctioned a special project to resolve the drinking water crisis. He said that Hyderabad was sanctioned Krishna Phase-III and Godavari water projects to meet the drinking water needs. Further, he said that the Pranahita-Chevella Irrigation Project was taken up at a cost of Rs 38,000 crore.
