AP takes the lead in Child rights protection: Rosaiah

Hyderabad, Nov 19: Chief Minister K.Rosaiah on Thursday said the State has taken the lead in implementing Central regulations with respect to Prevention of Child Marriages, Right to Education, Right to Information, Prevention of Child Labour etc. He said the government would ensure to work diligently for the survival, development, education and participation of all its children.

In an informal chat with his officials, on the eve of the Media Launch of the special edition of the World Children's Report 2010, Rosaiah said the partnership between the state Government and the UNICEF is helping to focus on projects based on health, education, HIV-AIDS and child protection to address comprehensive approach towards women empowerment.Expressing happiness his happiness in adopting these documents in Telugu and Urdu, the Chief Minister said the children have been kept in mind. The new Child-friendly booklet on Conventions of the Child Rights should help all children to know their rights.

 The special issue of the UNICEF's state of the World's Children tracks the impact of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.He said since its adoption by the UN General Assembly in 1989, the Convention had been ratified by 193 countries, including India in 1992, and its principles have taken root in regional, national and local legislatures.  ``It's very encouraging to note that since 1990, more than 70 countries have incorporated children's codes into national legislation as part of reform efforts based on the Convention's provisions," he said. Rosaiah said one of the Convention's positive impacts in the last decade has been the legislative changes which have enhanced the care and protection of children.

The Chief Minister also congratulated the UNICEF for its focus on problems faced by children in Andhra Pradesh and hoped it would continue its efforts to ameliorate the conditions of kids in the State.UNICEF representative for Andhra and Karnataka, Michel Saint Lot, Women and Child Welfare Principal Secretary Chaya Ratan and others are expected to attend the launch of Unicef  media report on Friday.
