Hyderabad, July 11 (TNN): Union Agriculture Minister Mr sharad Pawar on Saturday inaugurated the three-day festival ‘INFISH 2009’, the Indian Fish Festival, an initiative of the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) and Department of sheries at People’s Plaza, Necklace Road, aimed at creating awareness among people on fish as a healthy food.Talking to media persons, he said the objective of the festival was to bring stakeholders including fish farmers, technocrats, feed manufacturers, traders, consumers and research and development organisations under one platform.
He said that discussions will be held on latest developments in production technologies and marketing of fish and fishery products.NFDB’s Chief Executive Mr P Krishnaiah said that INFISH 2009 will showcase a collection of freshwater and marine ornamental fish with one of the attractions being a display and sale too.
The visitors will get to taste a variety of food like fish kababs, cutlets, deep fried fish, prawn and other seafood, he added.Exhibitions, sales, business meetings, food courts, recipe competition and cultural events will be organised during the Indian Fish Festival.He said the festival was intended to enlighten public, fishermen, farmers, students and others’ to enhance production, consumption of fish and to establish fish processing and marketing infrastructure.
He said the experts would showcase technologies in production and processing with an intention of educating aqua farmers.There would be interactions between suppliers of products and farmers. Domestic and exotic aquarium fish, related gadgets would be displayed.
