Adopt health lifestyle to avoid Hypertension: Minister

Hypertension is preventable by adopting healthy life style  mainly balanced diet and regular physical activities, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr DL Ravindra Reddy.

Addressing the “World Health Day” Programme at the DME Auditorium here, the minister has said that the World Health Organisation has announced that this year’s theme for the World Health Day is “High Blood pressure’ mainly to create awareness among the people. He advised the doctors that the patients coming to the PHCs or any Public Health care institutions shall be created awareness about ‘Hypertension’ and preventive methods to control the problems of High Blood Pressure.

The Minister also said that the universal Health care services proposed to be implemented by the World Health Organization would  provide the best Health Care Services for all the Health Problems in our country.

Health and Family Welfare Secretary Ajay Sawhney said that major awareness campaign on “High Blood pressure’ would be conducted throughout the State. He also said that strengthening of  Public  Health Services, testing facilities for Blood Pressure  and availability of medicines for High  Blood Pressure in all the Hospitals.

Health Commissioner Poonam Malakondaiah requested all the doctors to extend better health care services to the poor people living in Rural areas and create awareness on High Blood Pressure which is preventable. She said that Hypertension can be reduced by reducing salt intake, Eating balanced diet and regular physical exercise. The Commissioner assured that the department will take up special awareness programme through School Health Programme.

Director of Public Health and Family Welfare Dr S Aruna Kumari said that out of 14 lakh people who were tested, nearly 1.23 lakh people were found to be suffering from hypertension. The figures show that nearly nine per cent of rural population was declared Hypertension.

The Minister also presented Awards to the Best Doctors who delivered good services from the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare and APVVP Hospitals from all the Districts. The Minister also presented appreciation certificates to the winners of Bsc. Nursing and GNM Students in Essay writing competition.
