Resentment to the fore in Congress circles

Hyderabad,Nov 6: Intra -party democracy appears to have been the biggest casualty over selection of Congress candidates for the forthcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections scheduled for November 23.On Friday there was a lot of resentment among the party circles who thronged the house of health Minister Danam  Nagender raising slogans against injustice meted out to some candidates.A handful of Congress local MLAs alleged  that the selection panel has ignored  the recommendations of the local MLAs while picking up the candidates. This has led to a lot of resentment within the party.Musheerabad MLA Manamma Anjaiah staged  dharna in front of Danam Nagender’s house demanding ticket for the candidate whom she recommended. She lead a huge procession of Congress supporters from MUsheerabad to Dananm Nageneder’s house.

The police had a tough time in cntrolling  the crowd retorting to mild lathi charge.Meanwhile in Kukatpalli, the aspirants questioned the logic of selection panel in overlooking the selection of local candidates. They attacked the local Congress office and set fire to the  furniture. Local Congress leader Sridhar  Reddy even threatened to attack the house of Danam Nagender if the final list is not revised.Meanwhile three local MLAs Bandaru Raja Reddy (Uppal),Bikshapathi Yadav(Sherlingampalli) and K Lakshma Reddy (Medchal)complained to Congress president Sonia Gandhi alleging that PCC president D Srinivas, Ministers Danam Nagender and Sabita Indra Reddy collected lakhs of rupees and then allotted tickets to the candidate. While the Congress  is confident of giving a good fight in the GHMC  elections the party leaders are cautious that such over confidence can prove counter-productive especially if the rank and file is unhappy with the process of distribution of tickets.
