Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar on Saturday raised apprehensions that a few Seemandhra leaders might stall the formation of Telangana State.
Talking to reporters along with Congress MP G Vivek, Ponnam said that although the Centre was keen on granting statehood for the region, a few leaders from the Seemandhra leaders have been trying to sabotage the formation of Telangana. However, he hoped that the Centre would take a decision in favour of Telangana.
The Karimnagar likened Seemandhra as "tenants" who have "encroached upon" the Telangana region. He said that the formation of Telangana would ensure the eviction of all "tenants" from the region. He said that the Telangana leaders have been striving hard for a peaceful solution of Telangana issue. He also advised youth not to get provoked with the statements of Seemandhra leaders.
Ponnam also dismissed the need for a referendum or special status for Hyderabad reportedly proposed by TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao and Labour Minister Danam Nagender respectively.
Speaking to media Lok Sabha MP Vivek said that by opposing bifurcation, the Seemandhra leaders were going against the wishes of people in their region. He said formation of separate Andhra State along with Telangana would ensure setting up a new infrastructure and administrative network in the region which would lead to further development in the region.
