The Rayalaseema Parirakshana Samithi on Monday appealed to the Centre to grant statehood for the Rayalaseema region.
A delegation led by Samithi's president Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy met PCC President Botsa Satyanarayana at Gandhi Bhavan and BJP State President G Kishan Reddy at BJP State Headquarters at Nampally seeking their support in this regard. Talking to reporters later, Byreddy said that the delegation has requested the Congress and BJP presidents to raise the issue during the all-party meeting being held by the Centre on Telangana on December 28.
Byreddy said that Rayalaseema was the most backward region of Andhra Pradesh and it has remained neglected for the last 60 years. He said Rayalaseema would be the worst hit if the State get bifurcated. Therefore, he said the Centre should divide the State into three parts while giving statehood for the Rayalaseema region. He appealed to all political parties to raise the issue during the all-party meeting in New Delhi.
