In protest against the Maha Deeskha proposed by YSR Congress honorary president YS Vijayalakshmi for the cause of weavers on July 23 in Sircilla, two members of Telangana Rashtra Samithi Vidyarthi on Friday climbed a cell tower near Moosapet flyover in the city demanding that Vijayalakshmi withdraw her proposed Deeksha.
The TRSV members, wearing organisation's banner climbed a cell tower, and raised slogans against her deeksha and demanded that Vijayalakshmi should not enter Telangana region without making her party's stand clear on the statehood issue. Despite policemen’s repeated appeal to them to come down from the tower, the TRSV members continued their protest.
With the TRSV members climbing a cell tower, the traffic on Moosapet Flyover came to standstill and the police had a tough time to deal with the situation.
It may be mentioned that the deeksha of Vijayalakshmi for the cause of weavers on July 23 in Sircilla seems to have heated up the district politics with the leaders trading war of words with each other.
Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar and Sircilla MLA KT Rama Rao termed the deeksha as a vain bid to boost the sagging image of the YSR Congress party.
Sircilla MLA KT Rama Rao alleged that around 250 weavers committed suicide during the regime of YS Rajasekhara Reddy between 2004 and 2009 and attributed the wrong policies and programmes of the YSR government for the same. On other hand, Telangana Political Joint Action Committee chairman Prof M Kodnadaram called upon the people in the region to disrupt Vijayamma’s deeksha.
YSR Congress leaders flayed the Telangana leaders statements and accused them of batting for weavers even without knowledge on their problems.
