YSR Congress candidate from Parkal Assembly constituency Konda Surekha attributed her defeat to cross-voting.
Talking to media persons after the announcement of by-elections results on Friday, Konda Surekha said that she has given a tough fight to Telangana Rashtra Samithi candidate M Bhikshapathi and lost with a thin margin of votes. “Though many people worked against me, my sincere efforts towards the people of constituency yielded good results,” she said.
Konda Surekha alleged that the TRS won the by-elections by cheating the people of constituency and promising that the Centre would make an announcement within three months over the Telangana statehood. She said that TRS candidate M Bhikshapathi should resign from the post if the TRS fails to bring Telangana within three months.
She said that the victory of YSRC candidate Bhuma Karunakar Reddy from Tirupathi Assembly Constituency proves that the party would have strong grip in the State in future.
Though Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, Congress in-charge of state affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad, Congress observer Vayalar Ravi, former Tirupati MLA and Rajya Sabha member K Chiranjeevi and Telugu Desam chief N Chandrababu Naidu campaigned and gave a tough fight, she said the YSRC registered a huge victory in the Tirupati.
In the by-elections Konda Surekha lost to M Bhikshapati with a margin of 1,562 votes. To the surprise of many, the TDP got third position and the BJP relegated to fourth position.
