Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana on Tuesday said that the by-elections in 18 assembly and one Lok Sabha seats would not be a referendum on the government or the Congress party.
Talking to media persons during the election campaign in Anantapur district, the PCC chief expressed confidence that the Congress party would emerge victorious in all the constituencies, Botsa Satyanarayana called upon rank and file to sink differences between themselves and work unitedly for the victory of candidates. He reiterated that the government has not diluted any schemes launched by former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy as being alleged by his son and Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy. Despite financial constraints, the government has been implementing the schemes as they benefit large sections of poor and minority communities, he claimed.
Botsa alleged that Jagan Mohan Reddy was unnecessarily targeting Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and leveling baseless charges against the State Government. Instead of leveling baseless charges against the government, he advised Jagan to specifically point-out the lapses, which took place in the implementation of schemes. “The government is ready to rectify the mistakes and maintain transparency in the implementation of schemes,” he stated.
The PCC chief said that there were no differences exist between ministers and leaders over the selection of candidates for the by-polls. He also claimed that there were no 'cohorts' of Jagan Mohan reddy in the Congress party as being alleged by some leaders.
The PCC chief said that the government has failed to implement some schemes in the election-bound districts due to model code of conduct.
He announced that he would strengthen the Congress party at all levels once the by-elections in 18 Assembly constituencies conclude.
