YSR Congress Party on Monday expressed concern over the lack of security measures to the Party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy during his campaign trial, which began at Tirupati on Tuesday.
“The State Government’s apathy towards popular leader’s tour is highly objectionable and it should take responsibility for any untoward incident,” the Party spokesperson Bajireddy Govardhan told reporters here.
Jagan, who hit the election campaign from Tirupati had to face near stampede like situations twice as no proper security measures were taken by the administration. “I request the Chittoor district administration to provide adequate security to our leader,” he said.
The security was scaled down to Jagan, who is the President of a political party and there is a huge response from the people, he said. During his earlier tours, there was a posse of policemen and crowd control management but now it was downsized and only our leader’s security personnel are with him.
Being a popular leader, people throng his entourage and public meetings in large numbers and the administration should provide adequate security, he said.
While small time leaders of Congress are getting a strong security ring during their district tour and the main opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu is touring the State under heavy security cover, it is proper for the State government to provide adequate security to Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, he said.
