Congress leaders insist for early decision on Telangana

Former minister  R Damodar Reddy on Wednesday said that the Congress party suffered major debacle in the recently held by-elections as the High Command failed to take a decision on the Telangana State issue.

Talking to media persons after meeting Congress emissary and Union Minister Vayalar Ravi at Gandhi Bhavan, Damodar Reddy said that he had appealed to Vayalar Ravi to inform the High Command over the situation in Telangana and take a decision in favour of statehood to revive party's chances in the region. “At least, now, the High Command has to take a speedy decision on the statehood issue. Otherwise, it is very difficult for the party to survive in Telangana region,” he said.

Demodar Reddy said that Ravi has assured him that he would inform the High Command over the real situation in Telangana and submit a favourable report over it. Vayalar Ravi reportedly told him that the High Command was seriously considering finding a permanent solution to Telangana issue.

Rangareddy District Congress Committee president K M Prathap appealed Vayalar Ravi to suspend 'cohorts' from the party and government as they have been causing huge damage to the party. Ravi assured him that he would look into it and initiate serious action against them.

Telangana Vimochana Samithi president and MLC Dilip appealed to Vayalar Ravi to submit favourable report over situation in Telangana and find a permanent solution. Former minister Mohammad Fariduddin expressed displeasure over raw deal meted out to minorities during nominations to the Rajya Sabha. He appealed to Vayalar Ravi to do justice to minorities to revive the party in the State.

Stating that some section of minorities were against Telangana State formation, he said that the minorities would welcome the decision of Congress High Command in this regard.
